Guided Fossil Hunts – uncover the secrets of the past
During school holidays, on public holidays, and on selected weekends in spring and autumn, you can join a guided fossil hunt – an experience that combines nature, history, and excitement for both children and adults. We meet at the Fossil and Moler Museum, where you’ll get both the story and the hammer before we head into the moler pit to search for traces from the time when Mors lay at the bottom of a tropical sea.
Our guides are great storytellers – and they’ll show you how to split a stone and spot the fossils. You might find a fish, a leaf, or an insect that has been hidden away for 55 million years. And if you’re really lucky, you may even discover a danekræ – a find of national scientific importance.
There’s something special about holding a stone and being the first person in millions of years to see the outline of a tiny creature. It’s both fascinating and fun – and there’s usually plenty of chatting and laughing along the way.
